1. I use Desktop Ubuntu 9.04 64-bit. Available here:

2. Next download Eclipse IDE for Java EE Developers for Linux-64 bit. Available here:

Unpack it in your home folder.

3. Spring IDE

Eclipse->Help->Install New Software…

In the ‘Work With’ textField insert: http://www.springsource.org/update/e3.4

Name it somehow (ie. Spring IDE).

Pending…

Check everything that appears. In my eclipse there was problem with dependencies for AJDT integration. So uncheck it. We can install it later. Next, Next, Next, Finish.

4. Apache Tomcat 6.0

$ sudo gedit /etc/environment

Add at the end of the file:

JAVA_HOME=”/usr/lib/jvm/java-6-openjdk”
export JAVA_HOME

Get the: apache-tomcat-6.0.20.tar.gz
from: Apache Project Repository
Unpack it. Move somewhere.
Eclipse->Window->Preferences->Server->Runtime Environment->Add…->Apache->Apache Tomcat v6.0->Browse…
Choose the Apache Tomcat Directory.

So, it took about 1 hour and everything have gone very smoothly.

Setup Git on Ubuntu and Eclipse

1.
sudo aptitude install git-core
git config –global user.name “marpiech”
git config –global user.email piechota.marcin@gmail.com
2.
ssh-keygen -t dsa
(enter, enter, enter)
3.
cd .ssh
cat id_dsa.pub | xclip
mkdir euterpe
cd euterpe
git init
touch README
git add README
git commit -m ‘first commit’
git remote add origin git@github.com:marpiech/euterpe.git
git push origin master
4.
ECLIPSE:
help -> install new software
add eclipse git http://www.jgit.org/updates
5.
Load Git repo:
a) import an existing git repo: file -> import -> git repository -> enter your git clone url, pick git+ssh, and leave username git and blank password for github -> pick a branch -> pick storage directory -> uncheck import projects -> finish
b) load as project: file -> new -> project -> general -> project -> enter project name & directory to match imported repo -> finish
c) setup for pushing: team -> share project -> git -> next -> select the project -> finish
d) modify file and commit: team -> commit -> commit
e) push changes: team -> push to -> next -> add all branches spec -> next -> finish
